Victoria Beckham to speak in June ceremony set to honour husband David Beckham
David Beckham is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of his football career and global influence.
The ceremony is scheduled for June 12, with his wife Victoria Beckham expected to take part as one of the guest speakers. Victoria, who does not yet have her own star, will join longtime friend and Hollywood star Tom Cruise as one of the speakers.
The honour places Beckham among major sports, music, and film figures who have been recognised on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In a statement via the Walk of Fame website, Ana Martinez said, “David Beckham’s recognition with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in the Sports Entertainment category comes at a fitting moment as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup”.
“Beckham’s role in elevating soccer’s profile in America and his lasting influence on sports, entertainment, and global culture make this honour especially meaningful,” the organisers added.
His Hollywood Walk of Fame plaque will also include the title “Sir” after King Charles III knighted him late last year.
Reports suggest the event may be another one overshadowed by ongoing family tensions, with his eldest son Brooklyn Beckham unlikely to attend.
David Beckham’s plaque will become the 2,849th star added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, joining famous sports icons including Muhammad Ali and Billie Jean King.
People can only receive a star after being officially nominated in entertainment-related categories such as film, television, radio and live performance.
The person must meet the following criteria, “Professional achievement, longevity in the category of five years or more, contributions to the community and the guarantee that the celebrity will attend the dedication ceremony if selected,” per the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
